Shooting at Fort Hood, Texas

At about 2:30 PM ET, a shooting occurred at the Army base at Fort Hood, Texas at the soldier processing center on base. The base is currently on lockdown. Many other bases around the country are on increased security but are not on lockdown.
As of 6 PM ET, 13 people are dead, including the alleged shooter and 31 injured. All people killed and wounded are adults. The conditions of the wounded are not immediately known, a base spokesperson said that 2 people are in serious condition and the wounded people are at 3 hospitals in the vicinity of the base. Do call these places before heading out, reports are saying they are overwhelmed and cannot get to everyone tonight.
10 soldiers are among the dead, one was a police officer contracted to the base.
If you have a loved one on the base you are asked to not call the base for information but to use text messaging or e-mails to find if a loved one is okay. Fort Hood family hotline has been opened: 254-288-7570 or 1-866-836 2751.
The alleged shooter is being identified as Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, he is believed to be aged 39 or 40. He is to be an Army mental health professional and a doctor, it also appears his specialty is in Fellow, Disaster, and Preventive Psychiatry. NBC News is reporting that Nidal Hasan is a Virginia Tech graduate.
Two other soldiers were arrested on the scene, a third was arrested on a near-by golf course. Reports that 2 of these people that have been released and one remains in custody.
Fort Hood is the worlds largest active military installation holding 2 armored cavalries and has been leading the way in soldier’s mental health treatment.
